 Cyprus
is situated in the eastern Mediterranean Sea resulting
in hot summer days and balmy nights, and a mild climate
near the coast in the winter months from the beginning
of December to the end of March. The further inland
and the higher into the mountains you travel, the cooler
the air temperature, which is a great advantage in summer
as there is less humidity.
The island's scenery ranges from sandy beaches to picturesque
pine clad mountains, with nature trails for walkers,
secluded coves for those who want peace and quiet, and
skiing on Mount Olympus until the spring. It is true
that you can ski in the morning and sunbathe by the
pool in the afternoon during the winter months. 340
days of sunshine are recorded in an average year, the
wettest month being January where the much needed rain
may fall for about 10 days during this period.
The Cypriot's are possibly the warmest and most welcoming
people in the world. Their hospitality has to be experienced,
and this is certainly one of the main reasons holiday-makers
return to Cyprus year after year and then eventually
retire to their favourite location there. As the islands
national airline regularly advertises, no-one visits
Cyprus just the once!
Food is to be enjoyed everywhere in Cyprus, where restaurants
and cafes cater for all types of palette, but travel
away from the resorts and experience the true Cypriot
style of eating in a village taverna where there may
not even be a menu. You will not be disappointed!
